Renal and excessive consumption of cola drinks

Bad news for lovers of cola drinks. It seems that their excessive consumption (equivalent to two cans a day) predisposes to the development of chronic kidney diseases. This, at least, is the figure emerged from a study conducted by a team of researchers from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and published in Epidemiology. The analysis of the dietary habits of more than 400 people suffering from kidney stones, have allowed scholars, including the Italian biologist, Olga Basso, to determine, after excluding the existence of other possible risk factors, that there is a link including renal disorders, first of all calculations, and the consumption of cola.

A cause kidney problem is phosphoric acid present in large amounts in such beverages. Phosphoric acid would have the power to bind (and subtract) the calcium in bones making them weaker and thus promote the formation of crystals by attaching become kidney stones. Already in 2003, Katherine L. Tucker, the Congress of the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research, presented researches from which similar results were obtained that were then linked to the deficit of bone mineralization in women who constituted the sample.

Other studies had already identified the negative effects of excessive consumption of cola on health, represented by an increase in the level of cholesterol and the risk of hypertension and diabetes. Furthermore, the ever-present specter of the obesity even if you are taking diet drinks. But this is the first study that relates renal disorders with cola, but it seems that you do not run a particular risk, at least for the development of this type of disease, consuming other types of soft drinks. In any case, better to limit consumption and prefer healthier drinks like water, juices and, at worst, a glass of red wine.

Male or female? Tell me how you eat and I’ll tell you what sex your child will

It used to be said for mothers to eat red meat and salty foods to have a son and vegetables, fish and cake for a girl. But our grandmothers were right to give us this advice? He tried to solve the mystery of a research conducted in South Africa by biologist Elissa Cameron of the University of Pretoria.

Dr. Cameron has altered levels of sugar in the blood of experimental animals during the period prior to mating through the administration of water containing a steroid to inhibit the absorption of glucose. The comparison between the offspring of these mice with that of mice which had been given plain water showed that the largest number of females born was from the samples which showed a lower level of sugar in the blood. The data seem to contradict the old folk wisdom that eating more sweets during surely would have led to the birth of a child.

Especially as they are confirmed in a previous study that analyzed the offspring of laboratory mice with diabetes, had already led to conclude that mice with a high level of sugar in the blood give birth to more males. Is not yet known, however, how to lower blood sugar may increase the number of female births. The data, however, is really surprising that the same Dr. Cameron believes that our grandmothers did not entirely wrong despite the suggestions of his research seems to contradict them, for if it is true that the sweet consistently increase the level of blood sugar that happens over a period limited time which is followed by a drastic fall of glucose, while the same cannot be said for the red meat that has the power to raise the level of sugar in the blood for a longer period of time long and therefore be more stable.
